What Type Of Customer Are You?

As a Hydro One customer your property is classified by rate class or service type. Factors such as where your property is located, if your neighborhood is urban or rural and if you live at the residence full or part time all contribute to how your rate class is determined. Your rate class is listed above the “Electricity” line on Page two of your bill. Your rate class determines the rates you pay for Delivery. To learn more about rate classes, visit our web page. If you are a residential customer, your options are listed below. For our business customers, visit the Business Services section of our website.

Time-Of-Use (TOU)

Your bill breaks down electricity usage into three periods: On-Peak, Mid-Peak and Off-Peak. If you see a chart on page one of your bill displaying your usage across all three peak times, you are classified as a TOU customer.

Ultra-Low Overnight (ULO)

More choice is here. You can now choose to switch to the Ontario Energy Board's new Ultra-Low Overnight (ULO) price plan. The plan is designed for customers who use more electricity at night, such as those who charge their electric vehicle. This plan has four price periods: On-Peak, Mid-Peak, Weekend Off-Peak and Ultra-Low Overnight.

Tiered RPP Pricing

With Tiered prices, you can use a certain amount of electricity each month at a lower price. Once that threshold (1,000 kWh a month for the winter season and 600 Kwh a month for the summer season) is exceeded, a higher price applies. If you look at page 2 of your bill and see “What is my Tiered usage breakdown ?” then you're on the Tiered Regulated Price Plan.

Retail Energy Contract

You may choose to buy electricity through a third-party electricity retailer. If you have signed a contract with an electricity provider, you're a Retail Energy Contract Customer. Your bill shows your contract price for electricity.

Delivering your electricity

Hydro One includes the cost of delivering electricity to customers' properties on their bill under the Delivery Charge. The Delivery charge covers the cost of maintenance, upkeep, and all the things that go into making sure you have the energy you need, when you need it. Hydro One owns and is responsible for this portion of the bill. Click here to see what your Delivery charges pay for. Many of the other items on your Hydro One bill are passed along to other organizations including generators, the IESO, the Government of Ontario and others for their role in operating Ontario’s power system.
